Laptop computers have helped us achieve a lot over the years whether it is the businessman being able to take a presentation to a client or a student able to find somewhere quiet and free of distraction to get their essays completed. Laptop computers bring the benefit of getting work done to wherever we may happen to be whether it�"s on a train, at home or in our office laptops can be taken almost anywhere and this is a big part of their appeal.

Whilst everyone wants to get the smallest, fastest or most stylish model they can afford one of the key concerns for laptop users is the battery life. Without a bit of juice left in your laptop�"s battery you could lose your work and be disconnected from the world, whilst at home we may be able to simply plug back into the charger and recharge sometimes when you are working away on your laptop you cannot always plug into the wall such as on a park bench or riding a train.

When you choose a laptop you should be looking at the battery life, measured in hours almost as much as you are looking for a fast processor or larger hard drive. Another factor to consider is how long it will last under intense usage, a lot of the battery ratings are based on the laptop being left just to run, many people will be opening multiple documents, listening to music, watching videos and checking emails all of which could affect the battery life of our laptop.

Even if we choose the laptop with the longest life span, sometimes one battery isn�"t enough and so many people will actually buy a second or even a third battery to carry round as a spare. The important thing to remember is that before you start working make sure the battery is at least halfway full, ideally you should have a full charge but in most cases your computer�"s operating system can shut down unnecessary processes to save that little bit of battery power as well as putting your laptop into standby or sleep modes can conserve that last bit of energy to get your documents saved and get to your nearest power outlet.

Some laptops do not allow you to change the battery though such,as the popular Apple Mac books and Macbook Pros, unfortunately this means once your battery runs flat that�"s all she wrote until you plug into the wall. This may not be such a downside as many planes, trains and coffee shops now have power outlets to allow you to recharge your computer�"s batteries but it is still something worth considering whether you can switch out the battery for a spare, especially as batteries can lose their ability to hold charge over the years.
